Minnesota Field Trial
7/10/2012

Kumho Petrochemical, Valley Paving, and Commercial Asphalt teamed up to construct Minnesota's first Kumho Petrochemical warm mix roadway. The job was constructed on state highway TH 169. The job was a 2'' mill and overlay of 700 tons of warm mix and traditional hot mix done in parralel lanes, both using 25% RAP. The results were impressive with nearly equal densities achieved on 2 fewer passes:

“The WMA was easier to reach a 94% density with fewer passes.  The lower temp did not seem to affect any of our compacting requirements...The mix temp, according to the MOBA Bar looked as if the mix temp was more consistent with the WMA than the HMA.”- Valley Paving

University of Iowa "Green" Warm Mix Asphalt Research Gains in Popularity
The University of Iowa's research on warm mix asphalt has caught the public's eye. Dr. Hosin "David" Lee's project has been featured in many publications and on local news stations such as KCRG and KGAN in Iowa. One of the most notable implementation of the study is an asphalt resurfacing project in Iowa City. The city will be the first in the U.S. to use the environmentally-friendly warm mix asphalt to pave its roads. The additive that helps make the asphalt more environmentally-friendly is called LEADCAP or "Low Energy and Low Carbon-Dioxide Asphalt Pavement" and it was developed by the Korea Institute of Construction Technology.

In addition, Lee organized the 2011 U.S.-Korea Summit on Science and Engineering Conference. The conference had over 1,000 attendees from the U.S. and Korea, which also received much media attention.

World of Asphalt

3/16/2012
Kumho, KICT, and Cook Chemical utilized the comprehensive gathering of the asphalt industry at WOA 2012. Many contacts were made and a great deal of information covering LEADCAP technology was shared. The significant presence of contacts from international asphalt industry helped to begin LEADCAP's brand recognition globally. We look forward to working with all those we met at WOA 2012.

Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa

2/29/2012

Cook Chemical enjoyed the APAI Greater Iowa Asphalt Conference in Des Moines. Iowa has largely embraced warm mix asphalt and seems well ahead of the curve in adopting the beneficial technology. The event provided an opportunity to meet with contractors, city and county engineers, as well as suppliers to discuss LEADCAP projects and future involvement with KKPC products. Thanks to Bill Rosener, David Lee, and APAI for planning a great event.

LEADCAP at Association of Modified Asphalt Producers

2/14/2012

KKPC and Cook Chemical were well represented at the AMAP conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Warm mix technology was a major topic of discussion within the producer group members. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to discuss our product with asphalt producers and contractors. Many thanks to AMAP for hosting a great event.

LEADCAP at Transportation Research Board

1/29/2012

LEADCAP was well received at the Transportation Research Boards's annual conference in Washington DC. Dr. Kim from North Carolina State University delivered a successful presentation in the alternative materials panel that highlighted the advantages of LEADCAP mix designs.

In addition, Dr. Cheolmin Baek from KICT presented a poster that compared LEADCAP WMA against a popular wax WMA competitor. The study found that both technologies achieved compaction at a reduced temperature. However, of the two technologies, LEADCAP alone improved performance.
